Zoe is Eight Months Old

Dear Zoe,
Writing these newsletters each month is daunting. I always feel like I’m struggling to find enough to write about, but by the time I’m done, I’ve managed to find plenty to talk about. This month, for example, you got your first tooth, said your first word (sort of), kissed your momma for the first time, and wore an octopus costume for Halloween.

Zoe is Six Months Old

Dear Zoe,
We just got back a couple of weeks ago from our fourth yearly anniversary trip with Dave & Rose and Urn & Kat. We went to the Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls, and you had a lot of fun playing with your cousins Milo and Oskar every day. You and Milo, as usual, were fascinated with each other, and spent a lot of time hanging out together on the play mat on the living room floor watching Oskar run around. We visited Crater Lake, took you spelunking in the caves at the Lava Beds National Monument, and went to the Oregon Vortex and Mystery House. You were perfectly happy to hang out in the front pack for all of that, except that we forgot that going to Crater Lake means driving up a mountain, so you were screaming the whole way up due to the elevation changes — but that’s a story for another time.

Zoe is Five Months Old

Dear Zoe,
We just got back from your second trip to the beach! It was your Uncle Corey’s 30th birthday, and he wanted to go to the Oregon coast. Two weeks ago, it was 102°. This weekend, on the other hand, it was in the 60s and pouring rain the entire time. Still, Uncle Corey and Uncle Eric got to play in the ocean, and Aunt Melinda and Aunt Jill got to play with you, so everyone was happy. In fact, you charmed Aunt Melinda by laughing and laughing whenever she tickled you.

Zoe is Four Months Old

Hi Zoe,
During your fourth month, we took you to new places. You went to the beach cabin in Twin Rocks for the first time, and you went camping with us for your great-grandma Bev’s birthday. At the beach, we took you out to see the ocean a couple of times, but you were napping and seemed uninterested in the blustery wonders of the Oregon Coast. While camping, you enjoyed spending a lot of time outside playing on a blanket in the shade of a tree. You also got head-butted by your cousin Milo, who continues to get very excited whenever he sees you. You were not happy about the bonk he gave you, and after seeing you burst into tears and considering it for a minute, Milo realized that he didn’t like it either and also started crying. We’re trying to teach him some more appropriate ways to show his affection, such as with flowers or a witty greeting card.
