Don't worry about us. We're solid.

I haven’t felt much like blogging lately, but lots has been happening.

Annie’s last week of work ended on Friday. Now she can focus on packing for the next week, and continue looking for a job in Washington.

My work situation continues to be strange, but I don’t feel like getting into that. Email me if you want details.

We went to go see Shawn Of The Dead with Eric, Jill, Jeff and Sean, and it was awesome. I also saw Resident Evil 2 a week or two ago, so it’s like Zombie Movie Month or something.

Yesterday Annie and I drove up to our new apartment and signed the paperwork and wrote a check for first-month’s rent. The lease agreement was about five pages long, and a little worrying, but I didn’t see any obvious dangers in it, aside from the danger of signing a six-month lease when I’m about to lose my job. Our apartment is in surprisingly good condition. Probably because the apartment manager lived there before us.

Qwest continues to suck rocks. I did a bit of math and found out that as bad as they suck, it would save us $50 a month to go with a landline and DSL instead of a cell phone and cable internet, so I was giving Qwest a chance. They were supposed to be able to tell me on Thursday, when the landline got connected, whether I could get DSL. On Friday, I found out that I cannot get DSL. For some reason, they CAN get it in the manager’s office, but not our apartment.

The good news is that after I complained to a manager, she agreed that I shouldn’t have to pay for the landline connection, since I was only getting it for DSL, so I shouldn’t be charged at all for anything in Washington.

Our cable internet is getting installed on Sunday, but the only timeslot available is from 2-6pm, and we’re not arriving until at least 5pm. Luckily, Mrs. Stockman graciously agreed to hang out at our apartment during that time so someone would be there when the cable guy arrives. We left her some folding chairs, a CD player and our tiny little TV to test the signal with.

Packing is proceeding at a good pace. We’ve already completely packed the dining room and my office, and Annie’s office is half-done. Over the coming week, we’ll be doing one room a night, and should get everything done in time to start loading the truck on Sunday morning.

Today, Mrs. Stockman is cooking brunch for the family and is then taking us to buy a new mattress set. My mother-in-law rules.

Anyways, I should quit typing now, because Oskar will be here soon, and I want to be ready to steal a few minutes with my studly nephew before the rest of the family arrives and wants to see him. Which reminds me I still need to post my photos of the boy… I’ll do that when I get home.

In Our New House

“my feminist tendencies are being compromised by my need for a pocket” ~Me

aahhh… home at last…I’m seriously considering making my secret room off my closet this enormous girlie room… all shiny things and feathers… heehee! the rest of the house can be gray for all I care… well, except the kitchen, which is ladybugs, sunflowers and strawberries, and my computer room… which Scott can’t touch… oh yeah, and the bathroom because who wants to get clean in a gray room? maybe only his computer room gets to be gray ’cause I can’t touch it. :)

We measured the rooms last night so he could make a SIMS version of our place…only a true geek is compelled to replicate his current dwellings on a computer screen. so I figured out the square footage and it turns out we have roughly 1,000 sq. ft.! my dad’s jealous because that’s bigger than our first house! they had three little kids in like 650 sq. ft. ha! I win!

now I’m busying myself with plans for my garden in the spring and composting ideas and safe house cleaning ideas…it’s going to be awesome. I’m going to get rid of cleaners I don’t need and just use baking soda and vinegar forever! whoohoo! If I can’t work outside I ‘ll clean up the world that is inside!

I hope I don’t turn into one of those crazy bored housewives who keep a spotless home and take tranquilizers… but I think I’ve read too many feminist magazines and books for that fortunately…

Back in Portland

Ah, it’s good to be back in Portland. It’ll be better once I have a job and an apartment, but it’s still good right now. Things with living at home again are going smoother than I expected. Both my parents and I are falling over each other trying not to step on each other’s toes. Considering that I was expecting it to be kinda tense at home, that’s very good.

I talked to Annie last night, and her surgery went fine. She’s sleeping a lot right now, which is what she always does when she’s doped up on pain killers.

I possibly got a web design job! This guy found me on spaceninja.com and emailed me to ask for a quote. Apparently I gave him the best deal, because he said he wants me to do it! As soon as he gets the money together, he’s going to have me produce a site for him.

Oh, and still no word from those jerks over at Network Solutions. For those of you who don’t know, spaceninja’s up for renewal, and I tried to switch registrars to joker.com which has better prices, and they told me that the transfer was denied by Network Solutions, the current registrar! I’m not entirely surprised, since tales about NS’s fishy behavior abound, but I am angry. So far they haven’t answered my inquiries about why they denied the transfer, so I’m going to send them a few more emails. Grrr.

Getting Ready to Move Back to Portland

Progress is being made! The path is being paved for my triumphant return to Portland! Wednesday is my last day at ShirtWorks. Last Wednesday was my last day at the radio station. Friday, Annie’s folks show up and we spend the day loading the truck. Today I got us a bunch of boxes. Aw Yeah.

Countdown to Portland: 6 days.
