Job Hunting and Movies

I just got off the phone with Network Solutions and found out that the troubles we were having with transferring spaceninja.com to joker were simply due to bad contact information. So hopefully I’ll be able to get the transfer underway very soon.

I’ve been applying for jobs all over the place. I’m going to give myself a month to find a tech-related job, and then I’m going to suck it up and just get a job anywhere. Retail work is better than unemployment.

Not much else going on, really. It’s nice that Sean works at the movie theater so I can see lots of movies even though I’m almost completely broke. Last night was bad action movie night. Sean and I went to see the Mummy Returns and Tomb Raider, and I swear they used the same special effects company. In both movies, all the bad guys crumble into dust when shot, both movies feature an odd key-thing, and both movies have busty actresses. Not that I’m complaining.

Still, I’m looking forward to Annie’s visit this weekend, and going to see KT after that. I’ve got lots of projects to work on, but I’m itching for social interaction. Steve is too lazy to let me drag him out of the house every day, and even if I did, I don’t have any money to do anything. Just another reason to get a job, I guess.

I Have Seen the Light

Friends, I have seen the light! After carefully reading a pamphlet given to me by a man at the bus station, I have been born again, and I am making changes in my life. I have renounced my wicked ways, and I have taken a vow of celibacy to atone for my former sins.

And as one who has seen the Truth, it is my duty to try to save my friends, who are on the path to damnation. I call on each of you to follow the one true path into the light.

Miles: Isn’t it obvious that philosophy is just another tool of the Devil to trick you into renouncing the True Faith?

Steve: I know the pornographic website we ran together brings in a lot of money, but all the money in the world will not save you on Judgment Day!

Urn and Pat: As the best customers on our shameful website, your souls are in danger as well!

KT, Annie, and Jester: Stripping may pay the bills, but it is still a SIN and you will pay for it in the here-after.

Alex: Your girlfriend may not know that you’ve been wearing her underwear, but God does!

I’m sorry if that was painful for any of you, but it was necessary! Having seen the light, it is my duty to attempt to save you all from yourselves! It’s not to late to change your wicked ways!

Server Problems

Lots of crazy stuff going on lately. The Myst 3 themes contract got approved, and this weekend I was putting the finishing touches on the themes. Just a couple more tiny touches, and they’ll be complete! I’ll post screenshots for people to see when they’re done.

Obviously, (to anyone who visits the site frequently), the server was down for awhile recently. I got a panicked ICQ message from Steve asking if I could pitch in for a new motherboard. To our relief, we found out the next night that the server wasn’t dead at all, just the ISP had switched his IP number without telling him. So a couple days later, things were fine.

As for Studio Fojar, things are going well. The three of us are still excited about the idea, which is more than I can say about most of our ideas. I promise I’ll put up a big post about here soon, and get the site done up properly soon.

Oh, and KT’s christmas gift got here today. Once again, KT has triumphed in the gift department. She consistently finds these amazingly cool gifts that make me feel pathetic for what I got her. Anyways, I opened the package to find a large velvet box, which contained what appears to be a silver-plated mouse with my initials engraved on it. It’s hilarious. I’ll get a photo of it up somehow.

Lots of Movies

I’ve been watching a lot of movies lately. I love movies, and now that I have money again, it makes sense I would start seeing them again. Urn and I watched Pitch Black (again for me) and it was still really really cool. I’m amped about Red Planet. Can’t beat Val Kilmer, Trinity and a CG Robot! We saw Charlie’s Angles, which was WAY better than I thought it would be. It has head nods to almost every kung-fu and action film ever made, from Bruce Lee to Mission Impossible, and it doesn’t take itself very seriously at all, so it’s totally fun to watch. Of course, all the boobies help. Annie and I rented Tarzan, which I’ve been meaning to see for a long time. Miles said it was cool, and I trust him. He was right. It was fun just to watch the way they made him move! We also watched Titan A.E., which I didn’t think was that bad. I definitely enjoyed it, which was more than I expected from it. And finally, I watched the first half of the animated version of The Hobbit, which was actually pretty bad. Too many liberties with the plot for my liking. It makes me simultaniously nervous about and really excited for when they release the live-action Lord of the Rings trilogy. My friend KT put it best: “They’re releasing ONE a YEAR? WHAT IF I DIE BEFORE THE LAST ONE COMES OUT?”

Computer Woes

Aaargh. I’m never building a computer for anyone else ever again. Almost a year ago, I helped my friend KT build a computer from components. She was set to buy a prebuilt machine, and I convinced her she could save money building it herself. We went to Fry’s got all the parts and I put it together for her. Everything worked great except for one thing: The sound card didn’t work with a modem in the machine. Doesn’t matter what slot anything was in, if the two were in at the same time, the sound stopped working. The problem was not solved by multiple tech support phone calls, and my conclusion was that the problem was either with the sound card or the motherboard. KT solved the problem by living without sound.

Now she sends me an email asking what kind of sound card to get to solve her problem. I write back recommending one that a friend recommended to me and mentioning that a new sound card might not fix the problem.

She writes back and informs me that she’s angry that I never mentioned that it might be a problem with the motherboard before.

Shit. I swear I mentioned it before, but if she doesn’t remember, I might not have. So now KT is stuck with a machine that has a problem that I can’t solve, but she wants me to solve it since I’m the one who hooked her up, and quite naturally, she blames me for the problems.

How do you explain to someone who’s never worked tek support before that shit like this happens all the time? How do you explain that it’s more common to buy a part that doesn’t work than one that does, without making it sound like an excuse?

Of course I never would have got her these parts if I knew they didn’t work! I have the same parts in my computer (no modem, I’m on a LAN, so I never found that problem). But regardless, one of my best friends is mad at me for something that’s out of my control.

Fuck. I’m never building a computer for anyone again.
