Lisa Loeb Concert

Tonight, for the first time in about three years, Lisa Loeb played in Portland. KT and I have often joked that we’re probably the only two Lisa Loeb fans in Portland, as evidenced by the fact that she never plays here. We figured we’d be proven wrong tonight, since she wasn’t opening for anyone, but once we got there, we found out she hadn’t brought her whole band, just one extra guy to play backup guitar. It was still a fun concert though, and the third song she played was probably the highlight of the night.

Okay, this next song is from our upcoming album… (Lisa begins playing a slow song… about 30 seconds into it, she stops playing abruptly) …Maybe this isn’t the best time to play this song. It sounds like they’re washing the dishes. (in the background, you can hear someone spraying off the dishes from the grill) …Man, what are they washing back there? It sounds like they’re rinsing out a big tub… a big plastic tub. I guess we shouldn’t play such a slow song now. (begins strumming guitar again) …something a little more upbeat… like… the Plastic Tub song! It goes like this… (Lisa begins imitating the sound of the spray on the tub while playing guitar. Everyone laughs) Hmmm… what song could we play? (woman in front row yells “PLAY THE TUB SONG!”) …The what? …what? Tab song? …tab? Oh! Oh! The TUB song! Man, I thought you were saying Tab. …Y’all have got some thick accents. I’m from Texas, and I was like ‘tab song? what tab song?’

After that, she improvise this totally funny song about how she wanted some wine, and she deserved it because the only bad thing she’d had today was a few donuts in Seattle.

Miles Visits and Scott Angers His Coworkers

Time: 3:48am (press return). Miles has just left my house. Around 9pm tonight (yesterday) Annie checked out a car, and we picked up Miles and Zach (and KT) at KT’s house. On the way to Gustav’s, Miles started telling a story about his housemates which he was only able to finish by the time we left Gustav’s two hours later. We dropped KT off, and Miles suggested renting The Original Kings of Comedy, which we all watched at my house, and were greatly amused by. We had a great time, and were sad to see Miles go. Zach asked if he could crash here for the night, which we agreed to, and I said he could sleep in the middle bedroom (where our computers are set up) after I checked my email.

Now Zach is sleeping in the basement, and I’m still sitting at my computer because I have work to do. I knew this might happen, since Steve and I had a demo assigned to us at a meeting today, which is due tomorrow (today) at 9am (5 hours from now). But since Miles was only in town for one day, I decided to hang out with him and run the risk of coming home to a pile of work needing to be done.

Now I’m facing the same decision I faced so many times in college: With five hours until the project is due, is it better to work now and get three hours of sleep at the end, or sleep now and get up in three hours to do the work? Or is it better to post to KillingMachines and avoid the decision altogether?

We Met Blackflag

Last night, KT, Steve, Annie and I all went to a bar called the Blue Moon to meet blackflag from hatelife. I must admit, I had some reservations. I’ve only met a couple people from online, and those meetings were horribly awkward and uncomfortable.

This meeting, however, was great. We all ordered some food and drinks, and then we complained about the crummy service while we waited for our orders to arrive. The conversation wandered all over the map. There was some discussion of hatelife and other online stuff, naturally, since Steve and I like to talk about ourselves and it was one thing we all had in common. But we talked about lots of other things and had a great time. When we left the bar, we ended up all going back to Steve’s house to watch the Tao of Steve, which I had never seen, and I loved.

End result: Blackflag is a cool guy that we all had fun meeting. He’s currently considering moving to Portland, which we all encouraged him to do. It would be nice if he moved here, because he fit right into our little group.

Fondue and Poekoelan

Continuing her tradition of kick-ass gifts, KT gave me a fondue set for my birthday. While she was in town this weekend, we decided to get together with Steve and Miles and have a fondue night. After we looked up how to make fondue on the web, we got the ingredients and managed to make a pretty good one! Thanks, KT!

Also, I finally managed to get the new design for Killing Machines posted. Hopefully now Steve will get the user login options coded up so that I can enable skins for journals, too.

KMorg v2

Having all this spare time is a little frustrating, because I feel motivated, but some things I just don’t have the resources to do right now. For instance, I would love to start doing Poekoelan (did I spell that right?) with Steve, but I can’t afford the classes (or health insurance) until I get a job. I’d also love to teach myself some programming, but I can’t afford any manuals, and my net connection isn’t good enough to just do it all online. Oh well… hopefully I’ll find a good job soon.

Oh, and I finally broke down and renewed spaceninja.com with Network Solutions. The domain transfer to joker.com got canceled AGAIN. This time, Network Solutions said it was because my account is not paid. So they want me to renew my account for a full year just so I can transfer it to another registrar and not use the services they want me to pay for. Joker emailed me and said that Network Solutions is denying transfers that they are supposed to be approving, and that I can possibly try the transfer again for free when Network Solutions stops breaking the rules. Ugh.
