An Exciting Week for Fojar

“My life is all of a sudden difficult because fojar’s down…”
– Annie

Yes, it’s been an exciting week for Fojar. First, the virus crashes the router, cutting the connection, then Steve finds out that Fojar was hacked, necessitating a reinstall, and then he finds out that the ongoing downtime is the result of USWest deciding to delete that DSL account that Fojar is using.

And it’s been a busy week for me as well. Between trying to load fojar and my email every five minutes, I managed to get quite a bit of stuff done. I scanned some photos of Gavin, the one-year old Annie and I hung out with in Ellensburg all last year and posted them to my homepage. Then I succumbed to peer pressure and created a new hammerspace strip, so you can all stop sending me hate mail.

I also completed two “new” skins for Rusted. I put new in quotes because I actually made these designs two years ago for Hatelife v.1. They got implimented about a week before the crash that led to the creation of Hatelife v.2. One is a nice black-and-white design with lightweight graphics called “distress,” and the other is a colorful text-only design called “blue text.”

And, in case that wasn’t enough, I also have been working on my weekly art project. I’ll be getting it online pretty soon, but I wanted to show off the most recent piece. While looking at a photo of the three agents from the Matrix, I realized that I had head shots of Miles, Steve and myself at the right angles. A little photoshopping later, I managed to produce this lovely image of Agents Havelka, Johnson and Vandehey.

New Jobs and Hammerspace

Jill has asked me to watch Gavin (her 1-year old son) a couple days a week, for which she will pay me. This is cool, because we already watch Gavin frequently, so it doesn’t really feel like extra work. Also, Jill is the News Director at the radio station, and her News Producer recently graduated, so she needs someone to fill that spot on a very part-time basis (like six hours a week). But it’s a paid position, and she asked me to do it! (for those who don’t know, producer is not as impressive as it sounds in radio… it means literally the person who does the production… I’m the grunt labor). As with Gavin, I go in and help with the news now and then already, so both of these feel like a little extra money for doing something I don’t mind at all!

Also, I finally got off my ass and posted a new hammerspace comic. The way Annie and I looked in the comic has been bugging me for awhile, so I fixed them. Well, I fixed Annie. I found out that there’s no good way to draw a beard on a hammerspace character so I quit trying and just redid my character without it, which I think works better than the freakishly overextended jaw it had before. But the reason this is exciting is because, as dumb as it sounds, I wasn’t into doing hammerspace because those two characters were bugging me. Now that I got their appearance nailed, I’m hoping to start doing new comics much more regularly… at least once a week, and hopefully more frequently than that. So keep an eye on it!

Thanksgiving 2000

Yesterday was kick-ass! We decided to have a local thanksgiving dinner with friends, and the whole thing just kept getting bigger. I guess everyone thought it was a good idea, because everyone came! We had two turkeys, like three bowls of stuffing, and a ton of other food.

Annie and I were there, of course, and Annie’s parents came, with her two bothers. Then Eric and Jill (and Gavin) came over, and then Urn and Kat showed up with Urn’s mom, and then Jesse and a friend showed up.

It was great. I was a little nervous as we frantically cleaned the house, but it went really well. Everyone was laid back and seemed to have fun. We watched Thumb Wars (a star wars parody), The Grinch, and goofed around on Am I Hot Or Not. At least, that’s what we geeks did. I’m not sure what all the women and adults were doing, except that Kat and Annie did their usual trick of disappearing into a bathroom together, emerging ten minutes later wearing each other’s clothing and giggling.

On Wednesday night, we’re hitching a ride to Tacoma with Urn and Kat to visit Annie’s family. Dave and Zach (Annie’s bothers) are already plotting to see how many computers they can get together so they can do a lot of network gaming. Should be fun!

Oh, and Urn and I will probably find out today whether or not we get the specialty show.
