Oh, the horror… I was throwing out a forgotten closetful of stuff at my parents’ house, and I found my old D&D books. I cracked some open, hoping for one of those special moments that comes upon you when you find any especially cringe-inducing relic of the past. But no, they read just like any geek/technical website. There was the same deep lack of attitude, a blankness so familiar I didn’t feel as distanced as I’d hoped. The horror. My prescription: more Japan, less php.net.
Now, the Conan back issues, on the other hand… heh. Bombast rules.

Helpful lesson for Studio Fojar, then, I hope. Modern American game developers were RAISED on D&D; The oldskool of our arm of the industry still enjoys cold stats above all else. Hence why we see so many TOYS developed around here, and no games with much story; Most game architecture books written here dictate that writing the story first in any project is a cardinal sin. Though, on the other hand, the last time that industry focused on story, we ended up with crap like Sewer Shark; The key appears to be balance between the two, using style to ensure the two play nice. Sorta…Kinda. Let this be a lesson to you…Maybe. |P

Know, O Prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars - Nemedia, Ophir, Brythunia,Hyperborea, Zamora with its dark-haired women and towers of spider-haunted mystery, Zingara with its chivalry, Koth that bordered the pastoral lands of Shem, Stygia with its shadow-guarded tombs, Hyrkania whose riders wore steel and silk and gold. But the proudest kingdom of the world was Aquilonia, reigning supreme in the dreaming west. Hither came Conan the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the earth under his sandled feet. -
