Bouncing Flies

Another funny story about people reacting to my sites:

I found out today that the Graphic Design head from Central Washington University was looking at Space Ninja Design (long story) and the thing he was really impressed by was the “little fly that bounced around the screen in reaction to moving the mouse.”

I have NO CLUE what this guy was talking about, and I heard the story third person, so I can’t ask him. He’s got a bit of a reputation as a hard-ass around the graphic design students (don’t all graphic design teachers? I HATED mine!), which means he’s not likely to be easily impressed by something dumb, or likely to be tricked by the mouse-rollovers I have on the site now.

I’m beginning to wonder whether there was actually a fly on his monitor.

Scott …Your old "Bug Design" site had that kind of effect. Could he be looking at that somehow?

  2. scott says:

Annie and I immediately thought of that, too… but there are no copies of that up on the internet anymore…

  3. Dad ... B-) says:

How did this fellow happen to be looking at your work? Is he on the selection committee for that web job you want?

  4. scott says:

No, Sarah (the woman from Meadowlark) is friends with him, and asked for his "professional" opinion on my sites. Appearently he gave her good reviews, and then went to his Graphic Design class and just trashed me. Becky said his rant was something like "People should consider their potential audience. Here’s this guy who moves to a small town, tries to get a web design job, and shows his client all these weird sites. I mean what am I supposed to tell my friend? Should I recomment that she partake in his sadistic religion?"The guy’s clearly an idiot, and it pisses me off. I guess I should count my blessings, though, since he appearently only shared that opinon with his entire graphic design class, and told Sarah that he liked my work, because she came back glowing.

Bah, scott, you’re overreacting. He’s just sharing his bitterness about the world which only buys conservative designs. He’s saying: "cool work, dumb strategy. I like it, but I’m a designer and the people who are hiring are decidedly not designers."Is he right? I don’t know… but it sounds to me like this guy is on your side.
