The answer, unfortunately, is "it depends" on the comp. Ideally, the comp is relatively uncomplicated, and you can say something like "we estimate this work would take about 4 hours." I know that seems like a lot to ask, but this is something you only ask your serious applicants, after you've already weeded out the bad resumes and stuff. As for coming onsite, I personally would say let them work at home, or wherever they're most comfortable. I would think that working onsite would freak some people out. Excellent question, Andrew!
