“The Web has given angry and vitriolic people more of a voice in public discourse. People in the past who have been on the nutty fringe of political life, who were more or less voiceless, have now been given an inexpensive and easily accessible soapbox, a blog.”
– Former Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, who seems to think this is a bad thing.

I believe this is a bi-partisan phenomenon. Karl Rove is merely one of many politicians who’ve said stuff like this. They all seem to feel it’s too bad the riff-raff (that would be us) are no longer restricted to voicing their opinions via the local newspaper’s ‘letters to the editor’ column.
Check out the “fairness doctrine” congress keeps playing with. It pops up periodically in various incarnations from both sides of the aisle, has nothing to do with fairness and everything to do with controlling who gets to voice an opinion.
