Downtown Portland Protest

This was the view out my window a few minutes ago. There was a pretty good sized protest marching directly past our new office on Broadway and Alder, and I had a pretty good view, so I took some photos, which I’ve uploaded to flickr. My coworkers weren’t sure what to make of it all. I wonder if I’m the only one here who wanted to go outside and join the march?

  1. i, on the other hand, got to watch a single file line of cars stretching as far as the eye could see down sandy, which was a single usable lane thanks to road work. it was pretty impressive around 5:30 with the sun going down and the light catching on all 50 million irritable commuters.

  2. They were protesting the war and the president.

Get use to it, Scott. The amount of marching protesters that go down Broadway is surprising – most of them don’t make the news but there’s at least one march a month.

  3. Take your pick. :)

We saw signs talking about Iraq, voting, the president, and even one saying “the steel didn’t melt” (referring to a conspiracy theory about the twin towers collapsing).

The majority seemed to be protesting the war and the president, though.

As a coworker of mine commented “You know, I bet in two years, we’ll have a new president. The protest worked!”
