Apartment via Sims

Annie and I have found our apartment! It’s a nice little one-bedroom on Hawthorne with hardwood floors and really nice floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room. It faces the street, but it’s set back from the sidwalk up a little grass slope, so it’s not like we’ll have people right outside our windows.

This is just a little mockup I threw together in the Sims. It’s not super-accurate, but it’s enough to give you an idea of the floorplan. You come in out of the hallway into a little entryway, which opens onto the living room. On the far wall, there’s the door to the bedroom, the kitchen in the middle, and then the bathroom off another little entryway/nook. It’s not a giant apartment, but the layout is nice, and makes it feel bigger than it is.

Plus, being right on Hawthorne means that we’ve still got easy access to all the bits of the city we like, including a McMenamins pub across the street, my comic shop about 10 blocks away, and just a quick hop in the car over to the Laurelhurst theater.

We’re moving in on Sunday the 4th, which is also the day my internet is getting turned on, so we’ll be able to move right in and settle in without having any interruption in services.

Annie’s pretty excited, and so am I. It will be nice to be back into our own place, and also it will be nice to be living together again. It made sense for her to stay up there this month, but I’ll be glad when we’re back in the same place.

Hacked

Well, there may be some changes coming down the pipe. I didn’t upgrade my wordpress installations fast enough last time, and some fuckers hacked my shell account and have been using my account to send out truckloads of spam. Luckily, the sysadmins are being really cool about it, but this is a real problem, and requires me to change passwords and rename files and directories, and do clean installs of lots of things and bleagh.

Fucking hackers.

Housing

Too tired to post more right now, but I thought I should mention that Annie and I have found a nice one-bedroom apartment here in Portland. It’s on Hawthorne, and is pretty cool, plus the landlord is really nice, and willing to roll with our odd employment situation. Also, Eric and Jill found a house that they’re going to rent, which they’re moving into this weekend, so I’m going to be back into the moving craziness for the next week or two.

Nothing

“I did nothing. I did absolutely nothing, and it was everything I thought it could be.”
– Peter Gibbons, Office Space

That quote pretty much describes the last few weeks for me. You know, except for the whole putting everything we own into boxes and moving in 90 degree heat part. Other than that, it’s been relaxed and easy. I haven’t been on my computer much, except to play video games… So I guess what I meant to say is that I’ve been on my computer non-stop, but I haven’t been doing web design or email or anything.

I’ve also been hanging out with Eric and Jill and watching a lot of movies. It’s been wonderful. Between the last few weeks at my job, and packing and moving, I hadn’t realized quite how stressed I’ve been, and taking this time for myself has really helped.

Tomorrow, I’m getting on a train and headed North for our anniversary camping trip with Dave & Rose and Urn & Kat. Once I get back from that, I’m going to start seriously apartment hunting, with the goal of finding a place by labor day, when Annie comes down. I’ll also be starting on the job hunt, but I’m prepared for that to take a few months.

Anyways, sorry for not posting lately. I’ll be gone over the weekend, and then I’m aiming to start posting regularly again, along with resuming personal web development.
