hatelife.org

Hatelife.org returns!! Sort of.

For what it’s worth, anyone who wants to can download their old hatelife journal here: http://hate.yurusan.com/

You can also download forums.

I don’t know if the old hatelife.org domain name will ever be given into my hands, so I decided to put this up for now. Nothing lasts forever, but considering that some people spent years putting their words into this database, I feel like they should be able to get them back out.

June 5, 2005 Followup: Yurusan.com is offline, and the hatelife archive is not currently available anywhere online. Nor does it seem likely that the hatelife.org domain will ever be handed off to new management. For now, it looks like the old hatelife is gone for good. Interested parties should check out the “new” hatelife, set up by fans of the old site. It’s a pretty accurate recreation of the original. You can find it at hatelife.net.

Wow, this is amazing, thank you so much. You just made my day!

Also, anyone know a site where many of the old Hatelifers now go? It’d be nice to keep in touch so to speak.

Thank you so much Miles! I’ll marry you too! Erm… perhaps not, but just, thanks.

  7. J6 says:

Wow….I’m impressed and gratefull that you did this. Hatelife doesn’t need to be at the same old addy, but in the meantime, I think I will go find someplace to post just to have an outlet. Anyone have any GOOD suggestions?

I’m SO very thankfull that I got my entire journal back. Thank you, very much. :) I’ll gladly send you money if you ever get the site up and running again. You have my word on that.

  11. lelia says:

    Thankyou Miles.

In reply the Everythingsux, there are a handful of hatelifers on ‘blogspot’ - nmrboy under ‘nmrboy’, dan under ‘genghis’, arnoud under ‘exemplary sheep’, myself under ‘alalelia’.

In reply to J6, I don’t think there are any good replacements to hatelife. Everywhere else is very different.

  12. Dan says:

Thanks for jumping on steve’s grenade!

  13. hoplessly alone says:

So will you be putting a new hatelife type server up?

Edit: If you need money, ask.

is hatelife2.org still up for sale?

    again thank you.

    Hi Miles,
Thanks for your efforts, but your retrieval system doesn’t work. I couldn’t retrieve my journal at all. All I got were the following error messages:
“Can’t initialize the Your Own art collection.”
    And
“an unexpected error occurred while reading C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\G3GZM30V\jex[1].php”
    Any suggestions?

H.B., you’ve got to be joking. It’s not a right-click download; you left-click the jex.php link and enter your password. Try it from a different machine, too. Good luck.

  16. rchicken says:

    thanks much.

I have a new journal up on livejournal (I hate it but it’s the only choice I had)

    http://threefifteenam.livejournal.com/

  18. disenchantedgrl says:

For those with a livejournal I have a community called “melancholypeeps.” I feel that it would be a good way to keep in touch with one another so feel free to write.
It’s kind of slow but we can change it can’t we?

    XOXO,

    NxM

    ex, Smokingiguana

It’s like getting my past back after years of amnesia (okay, since may thru october of this year, but still, that’s a long time to go without a memorable inner monolouge)

in word, it works to just copy and paste, over 360 pages (counting comments) in 12 times new roman font. Thank You so much.

    I’m gonna start writting again.

    Thank you.

    Smokingiguana

  25. smokingiguana says:

i’m also going to share my inability to spell with the world again. yeah. these comments keep trickling in every week or so.

keep this thing up for a while. I’m out, but thanks.

  26. Some Guy says:

For what it’s worth, I’m attempting to build a duplicate blogging site that’ll let you import your old log. On the off chance that anyone has any screenshots of what it used to look like, it would help considerably - my impressions, after so long a time, are rather vague.

I’ve gotten as far as the user system, with registration/login/cookies, what have you, and the structure of the front page is essentially done. Since that was all today, I figure if I don’t hit any major snags I could probably get it up by this weekend…

  27. Some Guy says:

Incidentally, does anyone have any suggestions as to what would be a better URL - hatelife.net, or hate-life.org?

  28. rchicken says:

    hate-life.org seems pretty good.

I used to have the color numbers on my computer somewhere… if I find ‘em I’ll let you know.

Which style are you trying to make?
There is the oldest one (the one we had briefly before it all went away)
The main one (which had a split halfway through the screen, journal on the left and forums on the right)
or the newer one (with a seperation between journals and forums)?

  29. Some Guy says:

I picked up the colors from the archives link - as far as I can recall, it’s the same. It’s just the precise page layouts I was hoping to get a gander at so I could fine-tune some of it.

I suppose it’s probably the original one, as that’s the simplest - actually, I had just about forgotten about the forums. I never used them myself. Hm. They might not be there in the initial launch, but I’ll probably be able to figure out a way to work them in.

  30. he's void says:

wow, you’re remaking it? wish i could help, but i’m useless. anyway, that makes me happy…

  31. Some Guy says:

    Update:

The basic site is, for all intents and purposes, done. All that remains is the integrated email ability, the ‘import’ page, and tying some kind of ‘administrator’ journal into the main page so that there can be news on there.

And the sidebar forum things, I guess.

  32. lou says:

Personally I would go with hatelife.net. I do not believe in dashes in URLs unless they are unavoidable.

I was about to tell you to use the wayback machine (web.archive.org) to view the old web pages in its many incarnations, but I just went there are steve’s put a block on the Wayback Machine archiving the site, so all the old pages are gone.

And _then_ I went to find my screen caps of ‘memorable moments’ and discovered I had deleted them recently.

So where is this site? Want any alpha-testers?

  33. antimatt says:

the answer to some guy’s question is hatelife.net for the reason lou provided.

the question(s) we all want answered:

    ’some guy’ = miles?

    and if not:
    ’some guy’ = ?

and just in case you were wondering, some guy (whomever you are), YOU ARE GIVING US THE BEST NEWS WE’VE HAD SINCE WE FOUND HATELIFE IN THE FIRST PLACE, you can have my soul if you want it (only used once).

  34. Some Guy says:

‘Some Guy’ would prefer not to be explicitly identified, at least at present. ;)

Shouldn’t be too much longer, anyway. I’ll go for the .net address. I’m having a bit of unanticipated trouble with the import utility - even though it can regurgitate formatted entries fine, it seems to be having a great deal of trouble sticking them into the database. Once I get that done, I can put up the website and ‘beta testing’ can begin.

I’d say…Tuesday, sometime? Might have to delay for a bit for homework. Not sure if some of it is due this week or next.

  35. dan says:

    nice.

  36. Some Guy says:

All right, the site is up at http://www.hatelife.net

If any of you are still in touch with people in the original hatelife community, I’d appreciate it if you could pass the word along - it’d be nice if everyone could get back together again, after a fashion.

  37. Some Guy says:

Hm. Additionally, it has come to my attention that Netscape doesn’t really handle creative style sheets well, or possibly at all, unless they’ve fixed it in a newer version than I have. Since the page makes fairly extensive use of CSS, it may not look right in netscape.

  38. WanderingSoul says:

ok, so maybe i missed the train but your link no longer works. and this makes me sad. i went to hatelife.net but am having no luck with anyone there.

i just want to get back my many years of writing.

i have a livejournal account but i miss my old black and white hatelife.

if anyone even reads this still, or can help me out, i would be indebted for years. and i reassure you that i make one hell of a substitute for pack mule .. need your gutters cleaned? im the gal

just let me have my entries back.

  39. Scott says:

Yeah, sorry about that. At one point, I had the hatelife archive, then Miles had one, and then it went offline, and then it was going to come back, and then I don’t know, but it never came back.

I tried to bring the KMorg archive back too, but something’s wrong with the code, so it looks like both archives are offline indefinitely.

If anything ever happens with them again, I’ll post about it here.

  40. Wulf says:

I have an older version of the hatelife code. Note sure if it has the journal side bars, but I have it, nonetheless.

Could dig that up for you if it would be of use in getting some of the features into the new product.
