Hi guys,
We’ve been having a lot of server problems lately, but Steve and I are hopeful that we fixed them on Monday. However, I’m still getting scattered reports that people can’t access pages on killingmachines, or even fojar at all. Can anyone who’s got a few seconds please try loading the following URLs and let me know if you have any problems?

just a report from me:
the only domain i’ve modified at all is hatelife, and both servers are serving up out of the same database, so whicheverone you hit, you ought to see the right thing.
when a few more people have contacted me to get their email set up on the new server, i’m going throw the switch and migrate the bulk of the services to it.

Not for me …
From work I can open killingmachines.org with no problems [other than being slow]. All the other killingmachines test URLs give the ‘Page cannot be displayed error’. The fojar.com and hatelife.com worked okay
From home [last night] almost the reverse. The only URL I could open was Sean’s and all the others gave the ‘Page cannot be displayed error’.
Leilani’s spaceninja web page works. Annie’s strawberry studios does not.
That’s after clearing the cache and coming at things with a fresh start. I see no pattern other than this seems to be getting worse with time … from my side of the wire.

hmmmm…..which ISP do you use from home?

At home they’re on DSL-NW.
At work, he’s on the state’s broadband connection. I don’t know any details.

dsl northwest seems to be providing pretty spotty connectivity, then.. i wonder what kind of traffic they are blocking on the old fojar IP.

Update
Suddenly StrawberryStudios.org is working again. Still can’t get to any of the [name].killingmachines.org URLs. The root killingmachines.org page seems fine.

The old …
… fojar IP??? Have you recently changed IP addresses? If so, could this all come down to slow DNS server updates? Perhaps I’m pointing to servers where the change hasn’t rolled through yet?

This may be true, but it doesn’t explain why he’s seeing the same thing from work.
Still, no one outside my immediate family seems to be having any difficulties whatsoever.
This is baffling, but it does seem to be a localized problem, and not a problem with the server itself (which is a nice change of pace!)

d’oh! that’ll teach me to blindly reply from annie’s computer. This post (and the previous one) are from Scott.

well, what i have done is transfer the DNS servers from fojar to a colocated server, but only for fojar.com and hatelife.org, and i left all the dns records the same, i haven’t touched killingmachines at all..which is what makes it odd that killingmachines is the most heavily affected domain.
i wonder if it could be something having to do with the dns server that has the entry for ns.fojar.com changing….but that shouldn’t break it in such a weird and localized way.
although, killingmachines is the domain with the nasty dynamic-DNS hack we are using for all the subdomains..i wonder if that is breaking it. it could be that.

rusted wonky
Ya know, I frequently have a lot of trouble connecting to rusted. At home I use IE 5.5 on a Mac, so I figured it was some weird Mac thing, but it’s the same at work too (IE or Mozilla on Windows)
Often the page won’t load at all. Sometimes it loads the HTML but then sits idle, unable to grab the CSS, until I hit “stop” and then I can see the page but it’s ugly. The load time is often very slow.
I have no idea why it does this, but it does it fairly regularly. Today I’ve been trying to access rusted, and every time I do it locks up my IE internet connectivity!! until I close IE and reopen it. Guh.
I’m typing this in unix ‘links’, btw
