  1. Not that I am disagreeing, but the reasons the Germans don’t want to fight don’t actually have anything to do with the situation in Iraq. Schroeder only adopted the no on war stance because he was facing an election opponent who was doing the same. Germany has an incredibly weak economy right now, and the public generally regarded any dealings with war as a complete distraction. Since his opponent was landing so much support for being anti-war and pro-home growth, Schroeder decided to go anti-war too. He won the election in the end, by a very very slim margin. Since then their rhetoric has almost stopped, they’ve simply been voting no, and letting France and Russia do most of the talking.

    So, while I agree with their stance, unfortunately it isn’t really for the right reasons. Oh well you made me laugh ;)

    Bush is so short sighted :(

  2. I think one of the other ‘person in the street’ responses is much funnier, in a pathetic sort of way …

    “I’m sorry, but why should France and Germany have a say in what goes on all the way over in Iraq?”
