There is a good article up about what would happen AFTER a war with Iraq. The author makes the point that if we went to war, we need to be prepared for the regime change that would follow a victory, and that means years of US support, to the point where Iraq would, for all intents and purposes, be another US territory, only much harder to manage. Suprisingly, the author also has a sense of humor.
“The in-and-out model has obviously become unrealistic. If Saddam Hussein could be destroyed by a death ray or captured by a ninja squad that sneaked into Baghdad and spirited him away, the United States might plausibly call the job done. It would still have to wonder what Iraq’s next leader might do with the weapons laboratories, but the immediate problem would be solved.”
This goes back to my argument of letting someone with experience in colonialism take over after we kick ass and/or take names. Namely, Great Britain. May the sun never set on their new empire.
Hear, hear! Jolly good, old chap!
yeah, because we all know Britain did *SUCH* a good job with colonialism. I mean, the world is at their knees, right?
Yah, but they’re not praying to *our* almighty yet. Obviously there is still much work to be done.
Oh I mean… ummm, HOW ‘BOUT THOSE LIONS!?

Its indeed possible that I am missing something on this, and stop me if this is wrong–but hasn’t Hussein been peaceful since that messy business in ’91? I don’t think that we have a right to decide when a regime change needs to happen in another country.
I do however agree that he is a threat while he has weapons of mass destruction. The funny thing is, I don’t think he would be a threat if people weren’t talking about overthrowing him all the time.
Maybe there’s some information that I’ve failed to see, but I just can’t find him to be nearly as demonic as the Bush administration wants us to. If anyone has information proven Hussein to be more demonic than I had originally thought, please bring it to my attention.
I don’t really have anything to say on the post-war scenario. I think that the author of that peice got pretty much everything down. Thats all I got to say about that.
