Can anyone recommend a good local bank, or a bank that has offices in the area? I’m about to be rolling in dough (well, tip-toeing through dough, at any rate) and I’m hoping for:
* Low/No monthly charge
* Low/No minimum deposit to establish an account
* Free checking
Or some combination thereof…
washington mutual has free checking with no minimum balance or monthly charge.
Even though I don’t use them I have also heard good things about Washington Mutual. I use USBank, but only because they have yet to fuck me over. They will someday.

Portland Teachers’ Credit Union (PTCU) is excellent. Free checking, minimum balance of $5 in savings, $0 in checking. They stick you for $25 if you’re overdrawn, but, last I “checked,” they will pull the requisite funds from your savings account for free.
Their website claims they’re only for people associated with educational institutions somehow, but since they’re running huge purple billboards saying “we’re not just for teachers anymore!” I think it may be out of date.
