Here’s my screenshot of my system running Microsoft Fisher-Price Windows XP.
For me, the thing that’s really making this OS worthwhile is all the little touches that they’ve added. It’s all minor stuff that doesn’t really matter, but now that it’s there, it really makes the experience better. Things like transparent icon text on the desktop, so I don’t have to run a separate program to do that. Support for .zip files is built in, so I don’t need WinZip anymore. You can right-click on a graphic and there’s an option to set it as your wallpaper. And about five hundred more little details like that, that Microsoft finally got right. I’m really having fun using my computer again.
So even though Steve doesn’t think much of me for using it, I’d have to say that I really enjoy XP, and I’m not ashamed of it.
Also, I’m completely addicted to the little emoticons in Trillian. I keep wanting to pepper my emails with (santa) and (nutty) and that little smiley face with the mustache on it. I am a little ashamed about that.

theoretically… since you use fojar mail, and you guys RUN fojar mail, you should be able to write a program or patch or whatnot to include emoticons with fojar mail. like, you’d have a selection of icons that you write tags into the text, and fojar would automatically include them with the message as attachments or whatnot.but then you wouldn’t be able to view them in fojar, unless you changed it from a text only program. and no guarantee other mail programs would read the tags properly.still, it’s an idea, and if you can get it to work, you can create your own icons.’I'm feeling fairly pokey lately.’ (insert pokey icon)
Emoticons are lame. I’m waiting for the day where you can include full-size porn pictures with the click of a button. And naturally, Trillian would be the only one to support it.One beef about Trillian: More skinz!Jeremy out.
Yeah, the skins that are out for Trillian are definitely lame. I’m almost getting to the point where I’m thinking of making my own set of skins… but skinning is such a pain to do well, that I probably won’t.
Yeah. Being lazy rules. i remember this one time where I almost got up from my chair, but didn’t.Jeremy out.
It’s things like that that make me want to design my own OS.And I think you’re the only person in the world who would actually see transparent icon text as a need. What the hell is transparent icon text, anyway?
You know how if you have a wallpaper set, there’s a colored rectangle behind the desktop icons? Well, that color is the desktop showing through. For a long time now, I’ve been downloading a program to make that rectangle transparent, so the wallpaper shows through. It’s not a need, but it does make my computer a great deal more attractive, something I spend a bit of time doing, as you can imagine. So it’s one of those nice touches that Microsoft finally included, and it makes me happy.
I’ve never had much of an issue with that, since most of my wallpapers are primarily black, and I just set the desktop to black.I can’t help but think maybe you need a hobby or something. :)
I have a hobby! Customizing my desktop! These are the things I spend my spare time doing!
That’s the *really* sad thing about this . . . this *is* his hobby.
Woah, the stereotypical Enlightenment theme — in Windows. (well, the window borders at least)The days of being able to tell stuff about a computer’s setup by looking at the GUI are well and truly over.
