In Our New House

“my feminist tendencies are being compromised by my need for a pocket” ~Me

aahhh… home at last…I’m seriously considering making my secret room off my closet this enormous girlie room… all shiny things and feathers… heehee! the rest of the house can be gray for all I care… well, except the kitchen, which is ladybugs, sunflowers and strawberries, and my computer room… which Scott can’t touch… oh yeah, and the bathroom because who wants to get clean in a gray room? maybe only his computer room gets to be gray ’cause I can’t touch it. :)

We measured the rooms last night so he could make a SIMS version of our place…only a true geek is compelled to replicate his current dwellings on a computer screen. so I figured out the square footage and it turns out we have roughly 1,000 sq. ft.! my dad’s jealous because that’s bigger than our first house! they had three little kids in like 650 sq. ft. ha! I win!

now I’m busying myself with plans for my garden in the spring and composting ideas and safe house cleaning ideas…it’s going to be awesome. I’m going to get rid of cleaners I don’t need and just use baking soda and vinegar forever! whoohoo! If I can’t work outside I ‘ll clean up the world that is inside!

I hope I don’t turn into one of those crazy bored housewives who keep a spotless home and take tranquilizers… but I think I’ve read too many feminist magazines and books for that fortunately…

Be a Train with the Girlwatchers!

We went by Goodwill today to get rid of a carload worth of stuff, and while we were there, Zach found these gems in the record rack.

Be A Train!

First off, he found an kid’s album called “Be A Train.” Conveniently, the back of the record jacket provides instructions. There is a cut-out cardboard train for you to make. Once you assemble it, you are told to “put train on head like a hat…” Notice they say like a hat. LEGAL DISCLAIMER: Train is not a hat, and should not be used for hat purposes. Be A Train, Inc. is not responsible for train-hat related injuries! The final bit of text, in bold, informs you that “now you’re a train!” Congratulations, son! Your father bought you the most disappointing toy ever!

Girlwatchers

The second album he found is titled simply “MUSIC TO WATCH GIRLS BY.” So as not to confuse their potential audience, the photo on the cover of the album features a group of men we assume to be the band, identified as “The GIRLWATCHERS.” True to both their name and the name of what we can only pray is their only album, they’re watching a girl. Who’s YOUR favorite Girlwatcher? My favorite is the charming fellow on the right, who is so taken by this girl that he’s leaning on his fellow man for support. For the moment, he’s completely forgotten about his pipe, and we can only imagine the thoughts running through his mind about the girl with the lollypop.

Violent Mood Swings

so in accordance with the violent mood swings on this site, everything is much better than the last post. Scott and I are moving into an amazing duplex on saturday and my ankle is recovering nicely. finally. I go to the doc again on friday and hopefully I’ll be able to go back to work. I don’t know though because I still have 4 more physical therapy appts. who knows. I’m just happy it doesn’t hurt every time I walk now…I’m still pretty slow but at least I’m more balanced.

I also found out about a cool thing the library does, for two bucks, you can have books sent to your house! I was online and in pain so I said hey why not? now I have feminist books coming to the door so I don’t even have to leave the kitchen. ;)

also this week I realized something cool. I ask people “how was work? how was your day?” ans they say “oh you know…same old same old…work..” and I realized that since I’ve been in Envirocorps I’ve never said that. Even though I have to get up early in the morning, almost every day I’ve been up and ready to go. I always come back with new information and stories to tell. I think that’s really important. (did I mention that my new place is within two blocks of work?) haha. there’s also two cute coffee places, a burrito place, a huge music store, a convenience store and a theater/pub within like five or six blocks. there are also 4 cars within walking distance that I can check out from Flexcar. we rock. It’s scary how I could go on and on about our new place but I won’t…

I’m so excited to see all my babies next week. I’ve got the twins and Jordan to visit, and Eric and Jill are bringing Gavin over and spending the night. It’s going to be awesome…oh yeah, and thanksgiving too…I know what I’m thankful for! babies!!! someday I’ll have my own…it’s so much fun being a crazy auntie though :)
