The Rhythm of Life

Well, Scott and I are off to eastern Wa tomorrow for a wedding and to visit friends and family… Let’s all pray we make it back safely, for as we know, PEOPLE KEEP FUCKING DYING OVER THERE!

On the upside, for the three people I know who died this year, three I know were born. Twin boys I’m helping take care of, and early Thursday morning a friend of mine had a beautiful baby boy. I was there and got to see him when he was like 30 min. old. crazy. I also just found out that the three cousins of mine that are recently married are all expecting babies early next year.

You gotta wonder about the timing of three people dying and three being born all in one summer. The whole idea of a rhythm of life really starts to make sense when stuff like that goes down.

Anyway, glad to be back! hope everyone’s doing well! Scoot and I will be back in portland in a couple weeks, and then you’ll never be able to get rid of us! haha!

An Exciting Week for Fojar

“My life is all of a sudden difficult because fojar’s down…”
– Annie

Yes, it’s been an exciting week for Fojar. First, the virus crashes the router, cutting the connection, then Steve finds out that Fojar was hacked, necessitating a reinstall, and then he finds out that the ongoing downtime is the result of USWest deciding to delete that DSL account that Fojar is using.

And it’s been a busy week for me as well. Between trying to load fojar and my email every five minutes, I managed to get quite a bit of stuff done. I scanned some photos of Gavin, the one-year old Annie and I hung out with in Ellensburg all last year and posted them to my homepage. Then I succumbed to peer pressure and created a new hammerspace strip, so you can all stop sending me hate mail.

I also completed two “new” skins for Rusted. I put new in quotes because I actually made these designs two years ago for Hatelife v.1. They got implimented about a week before the crash that led to the creation of Hatelife v.2. One is a nice black-and-white design with lightweight graphics called “distress,” and the other is a colorful text-only design called “blue text.”

And, in case that wasn’t enough, I also have been working on my weekly art project. I’ll be getting it online pretty soon, but I wanted to show off the most recent piece. While looking at a photo of the three agents from the Matrix, I realized that I had head shots of Miles, Steve and myself at the right angles. A little photoshopping later, I managed to produce this lovely image of Agents Havelka, Johnson and Vandehey.

Agents

Deus Ex

While I was in Milton visiting Annie, Dave introduced me to an amazing game. I’ve been playing Deus Ex for about two weeks, and I just beat it last night. The game has an amazing story that begins with you as a secret agent and progresses through to you saving the entire planet.

While looking up information on Deus Ex 2 on a website, I found a list of cheats. Among those cheats was something called “matrix mode.” If you turn it on, everything in the game looks like the scene where Neo starts seeing matrix code instead of the real world. No screenshot could do it justice, but here’s one anyways. Just imagine all the code is streaming around. Personally, I think this is easily the best hidden feature I’ve ever found in any game.

And in case that’s not cool enough, check this out. For years now, I’ve wanted to put a war room in my house. I’ve envisioned it in my mind, and while playing the game, I stumbled upon a room that happens to look almost exactly the way I imagined it. The globe rotates, of course.
